Jane (Lofthouse) Johnston, PgDip, BSc Hons, MChs, HCPC Registered. Sports & Musculoskeletal Podiatrist. Jane is a podiatrist with a wide variety of experience having worked in the NHS, MOD and Private sector since graduating from Queen Margaret University with a 1st Class Honors degree in Podiatry in 2001.


She posses an in depth practical knowledge of musculoskeletal assessment and treatment modalities as well as orthotic materials, prescription and manufacture, formalised through the completion of a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Podiatric Biomechaincs with Merit from Staffordshire University. Jane is employed by the MOD to develop a Musculoskeltal Podiatry service in Scotland and is also the Lead Podiatrist at the University of Edinburgh's private sports injury clinic, FASIC.


As a recreational runner and competitive hockey player she has a specific interest in sports and biomechaincs and currently runs her own Sports & Musculoskeletal Podiatry Practice based at Professionals For Health, a multidisciplinary clinic in Lauder, Scottish Borders, which she also owns. Jane has worked with athletes from most sporting disciplines at all levels from recreational runners to professional footballers at Heart of Midlothian FC. Jane has held a contract with the Scottish Institute of Sport to treat Scotland's elite athletes since 2010 and will be working as a volunteer Podiatrist at this years Commonwealth Games.

Orthotics/insoles, if required, range from £15 to £230.


Jane can work with patients to select an appropriate orthotic within a particular budget. Orthotic prices vary vastly depending on the type, materials and durability. It is worth noting that there are many other treatments used by podiatrists of which orthotics/insoles are only one option i.e. not all patients will require an orthotic.

 
 


 
Kathryn Watt

Kathryn Watt - Herbal Medicine & CranioSacral Therapy


Kathryn has certificates in CST I, CST II, and SER1 in CranioSacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute UK (2006 and 2007), a BSc Hons (First Class) in Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy) from Napier University (2006), AAMET Certificates in Emotional Freedom Technique (2012 and 2013), and a Level 1 Certificate in the use of Bach Flower Remedies (2010).


She has been practising both Herbal Medicine and CranioSacral Therapy since September 2006. She believes all the therapies truly complement each other, and work well with other therapies. Kathryn has also been working in various areas of science since 1983, and found the knowledge gained useful in the training and practice of both therapies.

 

Kathryn was one of three partners involved in the setting up of a mixed complementary therapies clinic in Edinburgh and enjoyed helping to achieve the clinic's aim of providing a complementary health service to the community.


Outside work, Kathryn's interests include reading, growing herbs, cooking, receiving various therapies, and spending time with her family and friends.

 


 
Alison Hennessey 
Alison Hennessey Bsc (Hons), MSc, MCSP Physiotherapist


Alison is a chartered physiotherapist registered with the Care Professions Council (HCPC). She treats all musculoskeletal conditions at the clinic but having completed a post graduate certificate in Continence and modules in Women's Health at Bradford University now also specialises in physiotherapy for pregnancy, women's health and continence care. She qualified with a Masters in physiotherapy (pre registration) from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in 2003. Prior to this she completed a Bsc (Hons) Physiology at Aberdeen University. Alison has worked at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and the Borders General Hospital. She is acupuncture trained and a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Women's' Health (ACPWH).

Alison offers individual assessment and treatment of general musculoskeletal problems as well as more specialised obstetric, gynaecology and continence conditions. Alison also offers antenatal education in the prevention and management of back and pelvic pain in pregnancy. She has her matwork 1 pilates qualification which she completed with the Austrailian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) and holds physiotherapist lead pilates classes and one-to-one pilates sessions at Professionals For Health.

Alison has a keen interest in all exercise and enjoys running, cycling and exercise classes. She has a particular interest in exercise in pregnancy and promotes the importance of keeping active where possible. As a mother to a young boy she has experience of juggling pregnancy/motherhood alongside work and keeping fit!



 

Alexandra Davies, Physiotherapist

Alex qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from Teesside University in 2005.  Since then she has worked in both the NHS and private sectors in Yorkshire, London, Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. She moved to Lauder in 2016 and set up Lauder Physiotherapy in 2017. Alex currently works part time for Physis in Edinburgh at The Edinburgh Clinic in addition to her clinics at Professionals for Health in Lauder.

 

Alex specialises in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, treating all conditions for example:
-Sports injuries
-Back and neck pain
-Mobility issues
-Chronic headaches
-Long-term conditions such as arthritis
-Workstation assessments
-Occupational health advice
-Hand therapy

At Professionals for Health you will get a friendly and professional service, Alex offers one hour initial assessments and 30 minute follow up appointments. Your first session will include a comprehensive assessment, treatment and treatment plan. Treatments may include joint mobilisations, soft tissue techniques, taping, acupuncture, exercise prescription, advice and education. Home visits are also available on request.

In addition Alex offers Sports massage tailored to your needs. Sports massage can work alongside training schedules to enhance performance and aid muscle recovery. It can help manage long term conditions, stress and improve sleep and relaxation.
